Howard Hughes' Plans For NYC Pier Mall Get Panel's OK

Law360, New York (February 6, 2013, 7:57 PM EST) -- The New York City Planning Commission on Wednesday approved the Howard Hughes Corp.'s plans to build a two-level development at South Street Seaport's Pier 17 with about 120,000 square feet of retail space on the condition that it include maritime moorings and scrap plans for a rooftop sign.

In a unanimous vote, the commission agreed to allow the Dallas-based developer to overhaul the existing retail development on Pier 17 and add new open space, including a 10,000-square-foot rooftop terrace, according to the company.
