EU Plan Forces More Cos. To Reveal Data Breaches

Law360, New York (February 7, 2013, 3:28 PM EST) -- The European Commission released a proposed cybersecurity directive Thursday imposing new reporting requirements for the energy, banking, transportation and health sectors as well as other “enablers of key Internet services,” forcing private companies to divulge all data breaches that significantly impact their operations to government authorities.

Claiming that private companies do not have enough incentive to invest in effective cybersecurity solutions on their own, the European Union wants to make it mandatory for businesses to report to national officials any incident that has a major effect...
