Law360, New York (February 7, 2013, 7:07 PM EST) -- The National Collegiate Athletic Association on Thursday asked a Pennsylvania federal judge to toss Gov. Tom Corbett's lawsuit claiming the organization's sanctions against Pennsylvania State University violated antitrust laws, calling it a ploy to drag the federal courts into an intrastate dispute.
The NCAA's operations are subject to antitrust scrutiny only when it comes to its regulation of television contracts, coaches' salaries or other economic activity, and even if antitrust laws did apply, Gov. Corbett's complaint failed to state a claim, the association argued.
