Rap Label Facing $7M IP Judgment Takes Fight to 9th Circ.

Law360, Los Angeles (February 8, 2013, 4:14 PM EST) -- A Texas record label urged the Ninth Circuit on Friday to let it off the hook for a $7.2 million judgment favoring UMG Recordings Inc., saying it wasn't the alter ego of another label UMG sued for infringing songs by Ludacris, 50 Cent and other rappers.

Deep Distribution Worldwide Inc. said a federal judge erred in finding it was jointly liable for the January 2009 stipulated judgment against BCD Music Group, another rap label formed by Kingwood, Texas, entrepreneur Harald Blakeslee and his wife, Shila Mitra....
