3rd Circ. Says Mennonites Can't Block Contraception Mandate

Law360, Los Angeles (February 8, 2013, 10:02 PM EST) -- The Third Circuit on Thursday denied a bid by a furniture manufacturer and its Mennonite owners to block the Affordable Care Act's contraception mandate on religious grounds, finding the plaintiffs were not likely to win their appeal.

In a majority opinion, U.S. Circuit Judge Marjorie O. Rendell rejected Conestoga Wood Specialties Corp.'s motion seeking a stay pending appeal in its suit contending the federal health care law's contraception provision, which requires businesses to provide workers with health insurance that covers birth control, violates their religious beliefs. ...
