Whistleblowers Win $29M Verdict In Nursing Home FCA Suit

Law360, New York (February 11, 2013, 3:49 PM EST) -- Jurors delivered a $29 million verdict Friday against an Illinois nursing home after agreeing with whistleblower nurses who filed a False Claims Act suit accusing their employer of defrauding Medicare by allowing patients to wallow in filth and go without medications.

After a seven-year court fight and nine-day trial, the jury needed only a few hours to find that Momence Meadows Nursing Center Inc. “knowingly provided worthless services” to elderly residents and went to great lengths to conceal its conduct.
