Compromise Patent Reform Bill Still A Step Forward, Sponsor Insists

Law360, New York (October 3, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- As the Patent Reform Act of 2005 wades through Capitol Hill amid intense pressure from lobbying groups, characterizations of the bill are shifting from “sweeping and far-reaching” to “gutted and watered-down.”

But that doesn’t dampen the spirits of the bill’s sponsor, Texas Congressman Lamar Smith, who chooses to focus on the positive aspects of the bill, noting that even a less radical overhaul will be a vast improvement on the current process.
