FCC Moves To Free Up More Spectrum For Mobile Devices

Law360, New York (February 20, 2013, 6:40 PM EST) -- The Federal Communications Commission said Wednesday it has taken initial steps to free up additional spectrum for wireless devices, a move aimed at easing congestion on public and private Wi-Fi networks and enabling faster connection speeds.

The FCC has proposed making up to up to 195 megahertz of additional spectrum in the 5 gigahertz band available to unlicensed devices, like smartphones and tablet computers, the regulator said.
