Medco Funneled Kickbacks To Nonprofits, Exec Says

Law360, New York (February 21, 2013, 5:52 PM EST) -- A Medco Health Systems Inc. unit sales executive has filed a qui tam False Claims Act suit in New Jersey federal court alleging the company gives illegal kickbacks disguised as donations to nonprofit organizations to win millions of dollars in business from patients diagnosed with hemophilia.

Accredo Health Group Inc. Vice President Steve Greenfield says in a complaint filed Feb. 14 that the company routinely violates federal anti-kickback statutes by donating money through 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, payments that are then used to purchase funds from insurers...
