R.J. Reynolds Agrees To Halt Joe Camel Campaign

Law360, New York (December 6, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Cigarette giant R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. will suspend a controversial advertising campaign as part of efforts to settle lawsuits filed by eight U.S. states earlier this week.

R.J. Reynolds said it would temporarily halt the use of cartoon images featuring Joe Camel in its marketing of Camel cigarettes. The company made the commitment during a Wednesday court hearing in Chicago, said Robyn Ziegler, a spokeswoman for the Illinois attorney general's office.
