NYC Council Seeks More Oversight Over Home Elevation Work

Law360, New York (February 22, 2013, 2:49 PM EST) -- New York City lawmakers on Thursday pushed for a bill requiring contractors to give notice to city inspectors before starting home elevation jobs in the wake of Superstorm Sandy, citing shoddy work that was done in the rush to complete such jobs after Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans in 2005.

The bill, sponsored by Staten Island Republican Councilman Vincent Ignizo and supported by City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, heads for the council's housing and buildings committee next week.
