J&J Reveals Gov't Probes Of Hip Implant, Surgical Mesh

Law360, New York (February 22, 2013, 2:01 PM EST) -- Johnson & Johnson disclosed Friday it has been targeted in multiple government inquiries over potential False Claims Act violations related to subsidiary DePuy Inc.'s allegedly defective ASR XL hip implant as well as its marketing of purportedly faulty surgical mesh products.

In an annual report filed with the U.S. Securities Exchange Commission, the company revealed that both the U.S. Department of Justice and the Massachusetts U.S. Attorney’s Office made informal requests in August and on multiple occasions thereafter for materials relating to the hip implants, which...
