DOJ Joins Whistleblower Suit Against Lance Armstrong

Law360, New York (February 22, 2013, 8:39 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Justice announced its intervention in a False Claims Act suit against Lance Armstrong over his U.S. Postal Service sponsorship Friday, showing its increasing willingness to use the FCA as a tool to pursue fraud outside of the law's traditional government contracts context.

The suit, filed in 2010 by Armstrong's estranged teammate Floyd Landis, alleges that Armstrong, Tailwind Sports LLC, Tailwind Sports Corporation and Tailwind manager Johan Bruyneel submitted false claims for payment to the U.S. Postal Service, which sponsored the professional bicycle...
