Travelocity Beats $20M Patent Suit For Hotel Search Display

Law360, Dallas (February 25, 2013, 9:48 PM EST) -- Travelocity.com LP on Friday defeated a $20 million lawsuit targeting its searchable online database of hotel rooms, as a Texas federal judge held Travelocity’s map display function does not violate a Dutch company’s patent for displaying search results graphically.

U.S. District Court Judge Reed C. O’Connor said plaintiff Icon Internet Competence Network BV didn’t show Travelocity had literally infringed the claims of its U.S. Patent No. 6,002,853, a system for generating graphics in response to a database search, nor could Icon prove infringement under the doctrine...
