Military Maintenance Will Take Sequestration's First Hit

Law360, New York (February 28, 2013, 9:05 PM EST) -- Military maintenance will take the first hit of sequestration, the Department of Defense told House lawmakers Thursday, as it seeks to avoid scrapping existing contracts and risking long-term loss of valuable skills and personnel.

The Department of Defense said it is focusing on making sure that its initial cuts are “reversible” in the hope that Congress acts to undo sequestration shortly after it takes effect, starting Friday. That means cutting training and maintenance, and delaying new projects and deployments, rather than canceling projects or cutting contracts....
