Sgt. Asks 9th Circ. to Revive 'Hurt Locker' IP Theft Case

Law360, Los Angeles (May 9, 2013, 3:54 PM EDT) -- An Army sergeant who claims the makers of the film “The Hurt Locker” misappropriated his life story urged the Ninth Circuit on Thursday to revive his publicity rights suit, saying a trial judge erred in finding it was blocked by a free speech law.

Master Sgt. Jeffrey Sarver said California's anti-Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation law does not apply to his case because it was not based on anything to do with the public's interest in the Iraq War but on the theft of his persona....
