Scripps Health Escapes Rival's Patient Poaching Suit

Law360, New York (March 13, 2013, 2:20 PM EDT) -- A California state judge has dismissed Tri-City Healthcare District's unfair competition suit accusing rival hospital owner Scripps Health Inc. of wrongly making its doctors steer patients away from Tri-City, allegedly endangering their health and costing Tri-City millions of dollars, ruling the hospital hadn't proven its claims.

According to Judge Earl H. Maas III's order sustaining Scripps' demurrer, issued Feb. 22 and publicly announced by Scripps Tuesday, Tri-City had been unable to show Scripps had broken the state's unfair competition law, despite the hospital's claims.
