Philip Morris Wants Class Cert. Bid Smoked In 'Light' Cig Suit

Law360, New York (March 13, 2013, 3:24 PM EDT) -- Philip Morris USA Inc. and Altria Group Inc. on Tuesday asked a federal judge to deny certification to a class of smokers in a lawsuit accusing the companies of deceiving customers about tar and nicotine levels in their "light" cigarettes.

The tobacco companies said plaintiff Charles Wyatt successfully had his case remanded to Wisconsin federal court from a multidistrict litigation in Maine that had denied attempts to certify similar classes, but that his arguments for certification should fail for the same reasons that doomed the proposed...
