LA Public Utility Aims To Eliminate Its Coal Power By 2025

Law360, Los Angeles (March 19, 2013, 7:44 PM EDT) -- Los Angeles Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa announced Tuesday that the city's Department of Water and Power, the nation's largest municipally owned utility, will eliminate its reliance on coal-fueled power plants by 2025.

The announcement comes as the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power is working to comply with California laws designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020. The city estimates that stopping its use of coal power will reduce LADWP emissions by 59 percent and citywide emissions by 40 percent below...
