Trader Joe's Accused Of Covering Up Sugar Content

Law360, Los Angeles (March 26, 2013, 4:28 PM EDT) -- Trader Joe's Co. was hit with a putative class action Monday alleging the grocery store chain illegally mislabeled its products, including yogurt, soy milk and truffles, to disguise the amount of sugar they contain.

The complaint, filed in California federal court by Trader Joe's customers Amy Gitson, Christine Vodicka and Deborah Ross, alleges that the Monrovia, Calif.-based company misleadingly states that its products contain “evaporated cane juice” and falsely describes them as “all natural” when, in fact, they contain added sugar and chemical preservatives.
