Challenge To $60M Penn State Fine Backed By Pa. Treasurer

Law360, Philadelphia (March 28, 2013, 2:16 PM EDT) -- Pennsylvania Treasurer Rob McCord announced Wednesday he was jumping in as a plaintiff in state Sen. Jake Corman’s lawsuit challenging $60 million in fines the National Collegiate Athletic Association leveled against Penn State University in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child molestation scandal.

McCord said his duties as the state’s elected treasurer compelled him to join in on the suit, which would force the NCAA to comply with the recently enacted Institution of Higher Education Monetary Penalty Endowment Act, a state law designed to ensure...
