Ranbaxy, AstraZeneca Battle Looms Over Ulcer Drug

Law360 (October 18, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Indian drug maker Ranbaxy has applied to manufacture a generic version of AstraZeneca’s Nexium, in a move that is likely to incite a second court battle between the two companies over ulcer drug patents.

Ranbaxy filed an Abbreviated New Drug Application with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for esomeprazole magnesium delayed-release capsules, the generic name for the widely prescribed ulcer drug Nexium. The company applied for permission to manufacture the drug in 20mg and 40mg increments.
