2 NY Lawmakers Charged In Election-Buying Sting

Law360, New York (April 2, 2013, 2:00 PM EDT) -- Federal authorities accused two well-known New York lawmakers — State Sen. Malcolm Smith, D-Hollis, and Republican New York City Councilman Dan Halloran of northeast Queens — on Tuesday of a plot to influence the city's mayoral election through bribes.

Smith and Halloran, along with Bronx Republican Party Chairman Joseph Savino and Queens Republican Party Vice Chairman Vincent Tabone, set up bribes in order to clear a path for Smith to run for mayor of New York City as a Republican despite his Democratic affiliation, according to U.S....
