Haier Pays $3M To Settle Power-Sucking Freezer Suit

Law360, New York (April 8, 2013, 2:40 PM EDT) -- Haier America Trading LLC will spend nearly $3 million to settle a proposed California class action accusing it of selling power-draining freezers that consume nearly twice the amount of energy allowed under federal standards, according to an agreement entered Friday.

The deal calls for Haier to pay at least $1 million and up to $2.95 million into a fund that will compensate consumers who purchased an allegedly energy-draining Haier-made freezer model.
