Grant Thornton Escapes Suit Over Parmalat Fraud

Law360, Chicago (April 11, 2013, 8:13 PM EDT) -- Grant Thornton LLP on Tuesday dodged a decade-old lawsuit accusing the auditing firm of malpractice and fraud in connection with an accounting scandal that drove Italian dairy company Parmalat SpA into bankruptcy.

In a short opinion, U.S. District Judge John W. Darrah granted summary judgment to the Chicago-based firm in the case, which was brought by Dr. Enrico Bondi, the equivalent of a Chapter 11 Trustee in Parmalat’s bankruptcy in Italy.
