NBC, CBS Hit With Patent Suit Over Popular Podcasts

By Emily Atkin (April 12, 2013, 2:11 PM EDT) -- Personal Audio LLC on Thursday stepped up its crusade to protect its podcast technology, launching separate patent suits against NBCUniversal Media LLC and CBS Corp. in Texas federal court over the audio versions of some of the networks' most popular shows.

The patent-holding company's complaint against NBC alleges podcasts of shows such as "Rachel Maddow," "Meet the Press" and "The Voice" violate a patent for audio programs that transmit episodes to subscribers. CBS podcasts of well-known shows like "60 Minutes" and "Face the Nation" also violate the patented technology, according to the suit.
