Judge Can't Stomach $1.3M Natural Ice Cream Settlement

Law360, New York (April 16, 2013, 2:57 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge said Monday he was unwilling to approve a $1.3 million settlement of a class action alleging Ben & Jerry's Homemade Inc. and another Unilever PLC unit falsely marketed ice cream as all natural, concluding the award seemed too low.

U.S. District Judge Jeffrey S. White issued a tentative rejection of the agreement and called for both sides to tell him why the agreement “substantially reduces” the funds available for the class members from a $7.5 million settlement proposal in a related case....
