Bringing Japan Into TPP Talks Is An Important Opportunity

Law360, New York (April 16, 2013, 12:49 PM EDT) -- On April 12, 2013, the U.S. and Japan exchanged letters that confirmed U.S. support for Japan's entry in the Trans-Pacific Partnership ("TPP") talks. Japan can now join the talks if all 10 other TPP trading partners agree to its participation. Several nations are already teed up to quickly announce that they favor Japan's involvement. Discussions on entry may occur by the trade ministers at the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting of trade ministers on April 20-21. If there is agreement by all current TPP participants, Japan could be involved in the negotiations as early as this summer....
