J&J Ducks Most Claims In Splenda False Ad Suit

Law360, New York (April 17, 2013, 1:10 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge on Tuesday trimmed some claims from a proposed class action against Johnson & Johnson and McNeil Nutritionals LLC alleging they misrepresented the health benefits of some varieties of the sweetener Splenda.

U.S. District Judge Charles R. Breyer granted the companies' motion to dismiss claims that Splenda's Web and print advertising improperly claimed that a trio of its Splenda Essentials products containing antioxidants, fiber and B vitamins speed up consumers' metabolism and supply a portion of their recommended daily doses of some nutrients,...
