Google Asks USPTO To Look Closely At Software IP Claims

Law360, Los Angeles (April 17, 2013, 5:04 PM EDT) -- Google Inc. filed comments with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Monday outlining steps to improve the quality of software patents, saying patent claims are often ambiguous and can ultimately impede innovation rather than promote it.

The search giant's filing came on the deadline of the USPTO’s request for public input on topics concerning software-related patents and applications. Google joins at least 49 individuals and five businesses, including Yahoo Inc. and law firm Fenwick & West LLP, in responding to the USPTO’s January request....
