Chinese Imports Targeted In Honey Laundering Class Action

Law360, New York (April 18, 2013, 5:38 PM EDT) -- Three U.S. honey producers hit alleged Chinese honey smuggler Groeb Farms Inc. with a proposed class action Wednesday in Illinois federal court, accusing the company of defrauding the U.S. government and domestic honey-makers by "laundering" cheap, altered versions of the sweetener to conceal its Chinese origin.

Groeb Farms Inc. allegedly bought about 80 million pounds of illicit honey between 2008 and 2010, importing the sweetener from China and ignoring U.S. anti-dumping laws by selling the product well below domestic market value, according to the suit. This...
