Honey Producers Allege Chinese Smuggling Plot

Law360, Los Angeles (April 22, 2013, 7:47 PM EDT) -- Three U.S. honey producers hit Honey Holding I Ltd. with a proposed class action in Illinois federal court Friday claiming that it defrauded the U.S. government and domestic honey makers by "laundering" cheap, altered versions of the sweetener to conceal its Chinese origin.

The complaint comes just two days after the honey producers targeted alleged honey smuggler Groeb Farms Inc. in a similar action. The suit accused Groeb Farms of buying about 80 million pounds of illicit honey between 2008 and 2010, importing the sweetener from...
