In September 2012, several of the largest U.S. banks were hit by a massive cyberattack, possibly launched by Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Cyber Fighters, self-proclaimed cyber-jihadists. In response to these types of threats, on Feb. 12, 2013, President Obama signed an executive order that aims to establish a voluntary program for the adoption of cybersecurity standards to protect critical infrastructure, as well as a public-private partnership for information sharing.
