Qualcomm Licensing "Abusive," High-Tech Rivals Say

Law360, New York (October 28, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Several major mobile wireless technology companies have asked the European Commission to investigate wireless company Qualcomm, alleging that the company is engaging in anticompetitive actions in the licensing of several of its mobile communications patents.

Broadcom, Ericsson, NEC, Nokia, Panasonic Mobile Communications and Texas Instruments all filed complaints with the European Union’s executive arm, asking that the commission take action against Qualcomm.

According to the companies, Qualcomm is violating an EC law that calls for patents to be licensed on non-discriminatory terms.
