Ex-Fund Manager Gets June Fraud Trial Over Objections

Law360, New York (May 1, 2013, 5:59 PM EDT) -- A New York federal judge said Wednesday that former hedge fund manager Michael Balboa will stand trial in June on charges that he overvalued the now-defunct $850 million fund he headed, despite defense objections that they are not ready.

U.S. District Judge Paul Crotty scheduled Balboa’s trial to begin June 10. His lawyers had protested that they were overwhelmed with discovery and wanted the case put off by at least a month.

“I have a calendar to run,” Judge Crotty said.
