Gerdau Strikes $3.1M Settlement In Don, Doff Suit

Law360, New York (May 6, 2013, 3:02 PM EDT) -- A New Jersey federal judge on Friday tentatively approved a $3.1 million settlement resolving steel mill workers' claims that Gerdau Ameristeel U.S. Inc. miscalculated their overtime pay and did not pay them for time they spent putting on and removing protective gear.

U.S Magistrate Judge Lois Goodman gave provisional certification to a nationwide class of employees from 11 Gerdau steel mills who joined the suit, filed on behalf of hourly manufacturing workers who put in at least a week of work since February 2009. Approximately 800...
