Nike Can't Outrun ZIP Code Collection Suit

Law360, New York (May 9, 2013, 5:13 PM EDT) -- Nike Inc. must face several shoppers' allegations that it illegally collected their ZIP codes when they bought Nike merchandise, after a California federal judge ruled Wednesday that there were factual disputes about the company's sales process.

U.S. District Judge Susan Illston said that Nike hadn't been able to show that it hadn't violated privacy laws when its employees asked three consumers — Dustin Gormley, Erika McCartney and Kristen L. Hartman — for their ZIP codes when they paid with their credit cards.
