Pentagon Will Furlough Civilian Workers For 11 Days

Law360, New York (May 14, 2013, 8:27 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Defense Department said Tuesday that it would furlough most of its civilian employees for 11 days, about half as long as it initially estimated when the sequestration budget cuts took effect March 1.

The unpaid furloughs are expected to cause widespread disruption to tasks such as contract management and audits, but Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said the appropriations legislation signed in late March gave the DOD more flexibility to maintain a closer-to-normal level of staffing.
