White House Pushes Shield Law Amid AP Probe Backlash

Law360, New York (May 15, 2013, 6:15 PM EDT) -- Amid criticism over a large-scale probe of the Associated Press' telephone records, the Obama administration reportedly urged New York Sen. Charles E. Schumer on Wednesday to reintroduce a bill that calls for a federal shield law.

Senate liaison Ed Pagano called the Democratic senator Wednesday, asking him to revive the Free Flow of Information Act, a bill Schumer had supported in 2009 that was approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee but had fizzled before getting a floor vote, The New York Times reported.
