Bid To Reform Broke Texas Windstorm Insurer Shot Down

Law360, Houston (May 16, 2013, 8:21 PM EDT) -- A Texas lawmaker on Wednesday said a trial lawyer group has killed legislation designed to revitalize the state’s insolvent windstorm insurance pool, leaving thousands of coastal residents at risk two weeks before the start of hurricane season.

Sen. Larry Taylor, R-Friendswood, said in a statement released Wednesday that the Texas Trial Lawyers' Association and attorney Steve Mostyn have employed “delaying and obstructionist tactics” to block a floor vote in the state Senate on S.B. 1700, which was aimed at reforming the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association....
