Jay-Z, UMG Say 'Big Pimpin' Copyright Suit Is Stale

Law360, New York (May 21, 2013, 5:29 PM EDT) -- Business mogul Jay-Z, UMG Recordings Inc. and others urged a California federal judge Monday to throw out a copyright suit over an Egyptian song sampled in the rap song "Big Pimpin'," arguing the plaintiff waited too long before filing the lawsuit.

Osama Ahmed Fahmy filed the suit in August 2007 — almost eight years after "Big Pimpin'" was originally released — claiming he was a co-owner of the copyright for "Khosara Khosara," a song the plaintiff said his now-deceased uncle Baligh Hamdy composed in 1957. Jay-Z...
