IPhone Users Ask Court To OK Apple's $53M Class Settlement

Law360, Chicago (May 28, 2013, 6:26 PM EDT) -- Users of Apple Inc.'s iPhone and iPod Touch products asked a California federal court on Tuesday to approve their $53 million settlement with the gadget giant over claims that Apple wrongfully refused to provide warranty coverage for their devices.

The proposed settlement, which was reported last month and confirmed in court documents filed Tuesday, will end consumers' allegations that Apple denied warranty coverage based on a liquid-detection tape on its devices even when the tape did not necessarily indicate water damage, which the warranties excluded.
