DOD Should Streamline Health Care Contracting, GAO Says

Law360, New York (May 29, 2013, 4:27 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Defense needs to streamline how it contracts health care professionals to remedy a long “fragmented” system that has costly consequences, the U.S. Government Accountability Office said Tuesday in a report.

The GAO suggested that Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel develop an agencywide approach to how military departments acquire health care services. The agency's efforts to consolidate certain staffing requirements doesn't go far enough, the report said, resulting in overlapping requests for services and varied experience among contracted personnel.
