FTC Challenges $2.8B Pinnacle-Ameristar Casino Deal

Law360, New York (May 29, 2013, 5:47 PM EDT) -- The Federal Trade Commission moved Wednesday to block Pinnacle Entertainment Inc. from buying Ameristar Casinos Inc. for $2.8 billion, warning that the tie-up of the two rival casino operators would raise prices in Missouri and Louisiana.

The antitrust watchdog voted unanimously to bring an administrative complaint against the Nevada-based gaming companies. The commissioners also authorized the agency's staff to sue for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction if needed to keep the deal from going through while the administrative case is pending.
