Google Drops Defense Lawyers In Viacom Case

Law360, New York (January 18, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Google Inc. has hauled in a new law firm to replace part of the popular search engine’s defense team against Viacom Inc.’s $1 billion copyright infringement suit.

The Mountain View, Calif.-based company swapped prominent partner Phil Beck and five other attorneys at Bartlit Beck Herman Palenchar & Scott LLP for three attorneys at Mayer Brown LLP, according to an order by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York granting the switch on Jan. 7.
