DOD Proposes Unified ID System For Gov't Contracts

Law360, Chicago (June 5, 2013, 4:29 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Defense on Wednesday proposed a new rule outlining a universal identification system for government contracts across federal agencies, saying it will further efforts to increase transparency and accountability in federal spending.

The new rule would amend the Federal Acquisition Regulation to set up a uniform “procurement instrument identification,” or PIID, numbering system, according to the DOD, which was joined by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the General Services Administration in proposing the rule.
