Texas Pols Urged To Back Bill Adding Road Projects Funding

Law360, Houston (June 12, 2013, 10:10 PM EDT) -- Texas lawmakers on Wednesday were urged to adopt legislation that would dedicate almost $1 billion in annual oil and gas tax revenue to pay for transportation projects in the face of criticism that the state is overspending and not prioritizing education funding.

Sen. Robert Nichols, R-Jacksonville, told the Texas Senate Finance Committee that S.J.R. 2 does “simple” but “dramatic things” with oil and gas severance tax revenue by channeling nearly $1 billion per year to a dedicated fund for the Texas Department of Transportation.
