Feds Ask 2nd Circ. To Quash 'Game Of Skill' Poker Ruling

Law360, New York (June 19, 2013, 6:26 PM EDT) -- Playing poker for money is gambling, the federal government argued Wednesday, asking the Second Circuit to overturn a ruling that poker is a game of skill not regulated by criminal anti-gambling law.

A lower court order exempting poker from the Illegal Gambling Business Act defies common sense, Assistant U.S. Attorney Taryn A. Merkl told a panel of judges at oral arguments in Manhattan.
