Chevron Used Latham Ties To Turn $19B Suit Funder: Patton

Law360, New York (June 21, 2013, 3:30 PM EDT) -- Patton Boggs LLP accused Chevron Corp. on Thursday of using its ties to a retired Latham & Watkins LLP attorney to engineer a litigation funder’s recent turn against a group of Ecuadoreans it had financed in efforts to secure a $19 billion pollution judgment.

Chevron has challenged the $19 billion judgment in a New York racketeering suit, in which Patton Boggs was named as a "nonparty co-conspirator." In April, British litigation funder Burford Capital Ltd., renounced its role in that suit.
