Usher Allowed To Perform 'Confessions' At Awards Show

Law360, New York (June 27, 2013, 2:44 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge Wednesday refused a songwriter's bid for a temporary restraining order that would have prevented rhythm and blues artist Usher from performing songs off his hit album "Confessions" at the 26th annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards ceremony Thursday night.

U.S. District Judge Christina A. Snyder said plaintiff Ernest Lee Straughter, who claims Usher's 2004 hit "Burn" infringes a copyright for one of his songs, has provided no evidence that he will suffer “irreparable injury” if his restraining order is denied.
